---

Mario Bros II is a version of the Game & Watch* title Mario Bros, ported to the Commodore 64. Like the arcade Mario Bros, the game consists of a single screen for gameplay. In this game, the player simultaneously controls both Mario and Luigi as they work in a factory creating cakes for a stereotypically harsh employer. The brothers build cakes by moving vertically to transfer items between the conveyor belts which are oriented to operate in alternating directions. Missing an item causes the player to lose a life, with game over reached when the player has no remaining lives.
When the title screen pops up, neither Mario nor Luigi appear in their familiar plumber's overalls as seen in their other 8-bit video games.

Mario Bros II is a game released for the Commodore 64 in 1987 and developed by Thundersoft. It has only been released into European territories.

Gameplay

Though the name of the game suggests that it is a sequel to the arcade game Mario Bros., Mario Bros II is actually based on Mario Bros for the Game & Watch system; with a few additions.

In the game, Mario and Luigi are bakers making cakes for a chef by moving objects between conveyor belts. Missing items will cause the Mario Bros. to lose lives until all are gone and they get Game Over. Unlike in the original Game & Watch game, in this game the player is controlling both Mario and Luigi simultaneously.

Development and release

The game was developed by Thundersoft - a sub-group of the Dutch demo group RIFFS that would meet at the Oosterhout Computer Club. The conversion was unofficial and never commercially available. It was only distributed as PD software to demonstrate the coders' skills at porting the game.
